Many years ago, as well as the Cossie, I promised myself something else with a bit of racing pedigree – an Audi.
As some of you will know, Audi’s name became huge in the ’80s with the boxy Audi 80 Coupe Quattro, also known simply and affectionately as ‘The Quattro’.
I won’t go into massive detail about it here, but in 2018, the time finally came following the demise of the mighty Mondeo, may she rust in pieces.
Desperate for wheels, and as usual with no money ‘spare’, I bought one of my favourite Audis – a 2003 A4, specifically, an A4 1.8T Sport saloon – For the grand sum of £500 it was a whole lot of car for not a lot of money.
B6, PL46 platform
1.8 Turbo, DOHC, 20v, VVT – 163ps “BFB”
Front wheel drive
So obviously for £500, it wasn’t going to be a complete bargain. It had two problems – minor rust on the front wheel arches, and a reliable cold-start problem.
